Hello everyone, I have some news to mark the end of 2023 that will likely disappoint a few of our readers.
Little Blue Marble is going on a publishing hiatus. The length of this hiatus is undetermined at this time, but at minimum we will not be publishing at all in 2024, and perhaps longer. We will not be opening a submission window this year, and will not respond to queries.
This is not a decision I took lightly, although since I did make it earlier this year, I have been sitting with it and it is the right choice for me at this time. For a large portion of LBM's run, I was not working, and had time to manage the magazine properly. Late in 2021, I returned to a day job, and for the first year I was able to balance work, LBM, and my personal writing projects. However, my job's responsibilities significantly ramped up this spring. As such, running LBM has consumed all my spare cycles outside work, and I need a break. While it has been a delight to provide LBM as an outlet for other people's stories, I also have my own to tell, and have made a personal commitment to refocus on my own creative writing. Within that context, something has to give, and unfortunately, this year, that is Little Blue Marble.
What does this mean for readers? There will be no new stories this year, but the website will stay up and all our published works will remain available to read. Our social media feeds may go a little fallow, but I'll try to surface up stories from our backlist from time to time. Keep an eye out for updates, because:
I don't believe this is goodbye forever. There are plenty of great climate stories waiting to be told, and I would still like to publish them when my life calms down a little.
It's been my great privilege to bring you so many wonderful stories, features, and poems for the last six and a half years. I hope to do so again at some point down the road.
Thank you for all your support and your understanding as I step aside for a little while.
